New engine, new rules: the Mk8 1.0 MHEV Fiesta.
In 2020 Ford updated the Mk8 1.0l EcoBoost range with a completely redesigned three-cylinder unit. Also found in the new Focus Mk4 and Puma Mk2, it comes both as a standalone engine and as a mild hybrid, and the hybrid is the one that interests us most: it opens up even more tuning opportunities, and a new challenge.
Old engine or new? Here's how to tell
If you are unsure whether you have the old or new spec 1.0l EcoBoost, there is a simple way to identify it. The old unit has the turbocharger on the front of the engine, immediately in front of you when you open the bonnet. The new power unit has the turbo hidden between the engine and the bulkhead, and therefore uses a completely different intake system.
