Our Pumaspeed Race Motors are Built with Attention to Detail Foremost. We take a customer supplied Long motor ot Short motor and strip it down to check all tolerances (A Brand New Short motor can be supplied if required).

Tear Down

The Torn Down motor is then first inspected to see if there has been any deck creep as shown above (high mileage motors and those that have taken huge abuse can suffer from Deck Creep. This is where the very top 5-6mm of the Alloy Block which is unsupported between each cylinder moves and distorts. If the movement is too severe, this will be reported to the customer).

We then take the usable Block to the Hot Tank and clean it to remove all traces of Debris and Grease. The Block Deck is then micro re-surfaced and the Pumaspeed Block Mod installed. (Used cranks are measured and micro polished to maintain Stock Ford Tolerances, Pumaspeed do not use re-cut / re-ground cranks).

Engine Sleeving

The 1.6 EcoBoost Block has a weak spot as shown above, the manufacturing process allows the very top of the Block to distort between each Piston. Pumaspeed are changing at least one or two engines a week at the moment, and the main failure is the top area on the block, together with this problem we have also seen a few liner cracks. To overcome this whole issue we have specially commisioned a new Ductile Cast Liner (ASTM 536 - 84) with over 50% more thickness to cope with massive Boost and Stresses at very high revs. These Liners travel from the very bottom of the cylinder to the top with no Alloy left on the top, so no distortion, no flex and no gasket sealing issues.

Closed Deck

If the Sleeving option just isn't enough, then we have the option to fit a Closed Deck Brace. The Closed Deck Brace is normally fitted to cars that have Head Gasket issues associated to the top of the Cylinder Liner Flexing. Our experince building these motors since 2012 has shown us that this Closed Deck System has limitied value as the Head Gaskets do not fail due to the Deck Creeping as found on other engines (but at a much lower cost than the sleeve option we do offer it).

Engine Balancing (Blueprinting)

Pumaspeed offer a full engine balancing service. All race motors come with the 4 Pistons balance matched and each rod matched end to end and shadow balanced so each Bore receives the same weight rotating units. An additional process is to take the Stock Crank and balance this to the Flywheel (either the stock or uprated version of your choice). The extra balancing allows to safer running of high revs 8500 peak. We will need a Flywheel and or Clutch of choice to allow us to do this.

Engine Build

Using Original Ford Bearings, the Fully Balanced Internal Piston and Rod Combo are built and mated to Fresh 2 Step Honed Bores. The 2 Step Process means the very best piston ring to Bore seal is achieved.
