Pumaspeed Fiesta Mk7.5 1.0 EcoBoost Stage 3R tuning package: 205bhp from the three-cylinder Fiesta. Tried and tested on the road and on the track, with 12,000 development miles behind it and our own X-26 billet hybrid turbocharger at its heart. The stock turbo runs out of puff at 170bhp, so we built our own. Day-to-day economy and reliability are unaffected, and it is a simple bolt-on upgrade that can be fitted DIY or in our workshop.

Why we built the X-26

Pumaspeed engineers found the stock 1.0 turbocharger to be maxed out at 170bhp, so we developed a unique reverse-rotation CNC billet compressor wheel to push the 1.0 Fiesta and Focus engine over the magic 200bhp barrier. The 205 package is designed for those who want to get the most from the stock motor and add the X-26 hybrid uprated turbocharger.

Small engine, big numbers

The 1.0 EcoBoost is a real eco dream, with fuel economy high into the 60s and 70mpg, and a very real improvement on the older 1600cc Ti-VCT unit that traces its roots back to the 1990s Fiesta and Focus. Do not for one second think this pocket engine is too small: the power and torque we can extract from the stock motor and turbo will amaze you. With its quick-spooling turbo it will easily outpace any previous 1600cc Fiesta, and even the older 2000cc ST150 is no problem for this motor in tuned form.

So what power can the engine actually achieve without sacrificing longevity and economy?

12,000 miles of development

After 12,000 miles of performance testing, and consultation with engineers around the world, Pumaspeed explored many versions of engine tune and component combination to bring you a range of products that enhance the performance of the Fiesta 1.0 turbo EcoBoost. Each kit is built from strictly quality-controlled components that add flow to both the induction and exhaust sides of the motor. The components can be bought one at a time, or as a full kit fitted at the Pumaspeed workshop.

The limit we are happy to push the stock piston and rod combination to is 170bhp on the standard turbo, which is more than the stock turbo can deliver. The 205 kit is where the X-26 comes in.

What the 205 kit contains

• X-26 billet hybrid turbocharger (exchange)
• R-Sport high-flow vertical intercooler kit, 55mm core
• R-Sport Stage 3 cold air induction system (C.A.I.S.): Stage 1 air filter, smooth silicone air filter induction pipe, R-Sport Ultimate large-bore crossover pipe and large-bore turbo induction pipe
• Milltek Sport de-cat pipe
• Milltek Sport cat-back exhaust system

What is different from the 167–170bhp kit? Pumaspeed change only two things: the X-26 billet hybrid turbo replaces the standard unit, and a new cutting-edge Stage 3+ remap fully optimises all the extra flow available from the new components.
