We understand how daunting it can be selecting the correct spark plugs or induction kit for your car so we have simplified this stage 2 package deal with our recommendations below.

This R400 kit includes the following:

The options explained:

Air Filter - The standard airbox is perfectly capable of coping with the air flow demands of the MAXD stage 2R mapping, the standard air filter however is identical throughout the Mk7 Golf range and a high flow panel filter really lets your 2.0 TSI engine breathe. Alternatively you can replace the airbox with an induction kit adding much more induction noise when on the throttle, and an addictive turbo flutter when you come off the throttle. This can then be taken even further with a replacement high flow induction hose and turbo elbow, ideal for upgrading to stage 2 and beyond at a later date. Pumaspeed Recommends: Ramair Induction Kit, Hose and Elbow.

Downpipe - The stock catalytic converter has only been designed to cope with the heat produced by the stock power level, when pushing towards stage 2 power levels the cat temps will rise to a point where it will begin to cause damage to the internals of your stock catalyst, also due to the small pipe diameter they tend to be rather restrictive. A decat gives the best value for money and as a by product you will gain more noise, a sports cat won't give you a noticable noise gain but will keep you fully road legal and pass an MOT. Pumaspeed Recommends: Milltek Decat.

Intercooler - Most turbo cars tend to benefit from an uprated intercooler/chargecooler once you start adding more power, the Golf R has a particularly poor stock intercooler which begins to struggle at even stage 1 levels of power, so at stage 2/3 you definitely need an upgrade. The R-Sport PRO intercoolers are perfectly adequate if you ever plan on running hybrid turbo levels of power, if you do plan on pushing over 370bhp, it's worth investing in a R-Sport Pro intercooler  Pumaspeed Recommends: R-Sport Pro Intercooler.

Mapping - The hot topic on every Golf R owners mind, which mapping is best for me and my car? Ultimately it's a very straight forward question to answer, MAXD mapping consistently outperforms it's competitors in all aspects. With stage 1R you will see upto 370bhp and 490nm of torque, huge gains for minimal hardware changes! These figures are backed up by over 7 years of Golf R development work, independent dyno results and fantastic customer reviews from the guys at MAXD. 

The MAXD pro handset gives you the flexibility to switch mapping, and return to stock mapping at anytime, all you'll need is a windows laptop for the initial setup. You also have the option of adding a TCU (Transmission Control Unit) remap so that your gearbox and engine work in perfect harmony for DSG models. Pumaspeed recommends: MAXD.
