Ford Focus RS 2.3 engines are now thin on the ground and to be honest they were not that strong, the rods were known to bend very easily and the pistons suffered cracked ring lands more often than not.
The Old RS / Mustang Engine is now not available as a ready to bolt in kit and when is was available the costs of 6000+ plus were quite expensive.
This new 2019 spec Ecoboost style motor is found in the new Focus Mk4  ST with 280bhp  and the Ford Ranger.
As an alternative to the Focus RS 2.3 engine we thought it only sensible to test to see what it could actually do.

We dyno tested this new 2.3 Ecoboost type motor with a Syvecs ECU on an engine dyno with unlimited flow and unlimited cooling, the engine is quite ashtonishing for power and torque production.
400bhp is certinly achevable and over 600nm was recorded as low as 2500 revs.
As a package unit for a kit car we beleive this unit has to be the future and with added Hybrid turbos we feel it coudl make 450bhp for a bargain price.

Whats the same as the RS ?
The external dimensions are identical to the 2.3 mustang / Focus RS
The bell hoiusing bolt pattern is the same as is the crank bolt pattern. This basically means that if you wanted to fit this in side a new build kit car and wanted a 2.3 RS Focus engine then this is a way better altenative.
Back to beck testing boost for boost on RS and ST 2.3 motors saw 40 bhp more with this version.

Whats different to the RS ?

The turbo runs and electronic wastegate not vacuum like the RS so the ecu system woudl have to take this into account.
The included manifold suits the Mustang application with entry at the lower front not in the middle like a FWD application.
Its a Stronger built unit, we have opened one of these motors to inspect and assess the strength and found the pistons to be a better design and the rods to be way stronger than the older 2.3 Focus RS Ecoboost
