The new Focus RS Mk3 arrives at Pumaspeed
The new Focus RS Mk3 arrives at Pumaspeed, and Stage 1 is done inside a day.
Fresh from drag-strip success with the quickest stock-engined Fiesta ST, the Pumaspeed development team could not wait to get their hands on the new Focus RS Mk3. First on the list: the ECU.

Pumaspeed knew the MAXD OUT team had been working on the 2.3 EcoBoost in the Mustang for around six months with a development vehicle of their own, and had already produced a range of Stage 1 and Stage 1 Plus maps, from a simple 40bhp and 80Nm upgrade up to a massive 70bhp and 670Nm of torque.
Within the first hour of the car arriving, the MAXD flash tuning box was plugged into the OBD port, the Windows laptop booted and the data read from the ECU. Overnight the MAXD team wrote a series of tuning files based on the finished Mustang work, and the following day they were tested one after another, every datalog scanned and verified, until the Stage 1 calibration was finalised: up 25 to 30bhp and, more importantly, 100Nm.
Does it show in the real world?
The performance increase with Stage 1 is significant. To prove it we ran our Stage 1 demo car at the local York drag strip, on the same day, with the same driver and identical conditions over the quarter mile. A set of Toyo R888 tyres were fitted and a K&N filter installed in the stock Ford airbox. On the stock Ford map the RS Mk3 ran 13.2 seconds; on the MAXD Stage 1 map it ran 12.7.

Milltek cat-back exhaust now available
Milltek Sport wasted no time and have already released their non-resonated cat-back exhaust for the RS Mk3. We secured our stock and a system for our own demo car, and with downpipes and de-cats in the works, the Stage 2 map followed soon after. R-Sport crossover and induction kit
The R-Sport crossover pipe is compatible with the standard airbox and with open cone filters.
Where the development went next
The future development list at the time read: de-cat and sports catalysts, intercooler, boost pipes and the Stage 2 calibration. All of it has since arrived, and the Focus RS Mk3 now has a full set of Pumaspeed packages from Stage 1R RS400 to the X-37 hybrid turbo.
