FOCUS RS DEVELOPMENT
The New Focus RS Mk3 arrives at Pumaspeed.
The wait is finally over for the Pumaspeed Development team, fresh from the proven drag strip success of the quickest stock engined ST Fiesta they couldn't wait to get their hands on he new Focus RS Mk3.
First on the list was to look into the ECU and remapping possibilities. Pumaspeed knew that the MAXD OUT Team had been working on the 2.3 Ecoboost in the Mustang for around 6 months and had a development vehicle in their possession. They had developed a range of stage 1 and 1 Plus maps that ranged in power from a simple 40bhp 80nm upgrade to a massive +70bhp and a huge 670nm of torque.
The Maxd Flash tuning Box was plugged into the vehicles OBD Port, the Windows PC was booted and the data was read from the ECU. All this was done within the first 1 hour of the vehicle arriving. Over night the MAXD Team wrote a series of tuning files that were based on the Mustang files they had already finished. The following day the tuning files were tested one after the other all data logs were scanned and verified and the Stage 1 tuning calibration was finalized. Up 25-30 bhp and more importantly 100nm.
Can we qualify the real world Performance Increase.
The Performance increase with the stage 1 remapping is significant, in our testing we ran our Stage 1 Demo car at the local York Drag Strip to assess the performance in a real world situation.
We ran the car on the same day with the same driver with all the conditions identical over the 1/4 mile course
A set of Toyo 888 tyres were fitted and the additional K&N Filter was installed inside the stock Ford Air Box.
The Pumaspeed Focus RS Mk3 ran the following times-
Ford Stock mapped time of 13.2 seconds for the quarter mile.
MAXD Stage 1 mapped of 12.7 seconds.
